John Haddad: Around the turn of the 21st century I picked up a pencil and started sketching simply to relax at the end of my day. I soon purchased a few books on drawing and mostly sketched outdoors, of objects found around the home, and copied pictures in magazines or on the Internet. After several years I decided to introduce color into my drawings and so I began using color pencils and eventually watercolors. Even though I found watercolors to be difficult and frustrating in the beginning I had a lot of admiration for those artists who could direct the medium to produce amazing results and so I continued my struggle until I was at least happy with some of the studies I produced. Today I continue to enjoy the immediate expression of drawing and painting in watercolor. I’m always amazed when I see works of the great master painters and soon discovered an appreciation for modern contemporary realist art. This appreciation led me to begin my education into traditional studio practices and oil painting. This blog is to document my artists’ journey as I continue to learn through studies, workshops, and fellow bloggers, hopefully improving upon my art over time.
